Patrick Whalen

Patrick Whalen is the author of four horror novels written for Pocket Books between the years 1988 and 1992.  There are no bios included in the books, and I found only an old website for him online, with next to nothing in the way of information about the man.  If anyone who knows him or knows anything about him could post in the comments it would be much appreciated. His first novel, Monastery, was well received and is hard to find these days in good condition. The same goes for paperback copies of Deathwalker, his last novel published by Pocket Books. It seems he finished another horror novel, Protector, which he published online in the early-2000s.  Cemetery Dance re-released his his first four novels in eBook editions a few years ago.

  1. I went to school with Patrick and have stayed in touch with him . He is 75 years old and a very nice man who loves animals (especially his rescued dgs from the pound). I have never read his books as I told him I would get too scared. He is from Washington state and currently resides in California. He was excited to know his books were going to be able to be read on Kindle and said he had some pretty loyal fans. He said he modeled some his characters from people we grew up with but wouldn’t tell me who! He has one sister, divorced, no children .
He has a Masters degree in Social Work from Univ. of Washington. He worked as a senior Counselor for a medical group who served the developmentally disabled.
He was proud that he served in the Army Paratroopers until injured and discharged.
I feel proud that he is my friend as he is a very loyal one and all around good guy~!

    1. Thank you for your comment, Linda, and providing some interesting personal information about Mr. Whalen to supplement our post. We all knew he was a good writer, but he sounds like a great guy, too. Thanks so much for stopping in!

      Chris

      1. You are welcome! BTW I got this channel when I googled Patrick Whalen–thought you might like to know that!

  2. I have a copy of monastery and it is signed by Patrick given to a woman at a bar in Visalia Ca called Faces that hasn’t been there since the early 90s I always thought he was local to central California because he writes about all these places that are close to where I live. That and a lady who owned a used bookstore here knows another lady who used to proofread for him in Visalia she even said she had read the third installment of the vampire saga that was never published.

  3. I helped Patrick with researching on his first two books. I had the privilege of reading them before they were sent to the publisher.
