Realms of Night Issue 6 is Now Available!

Yes, the Fall 2025 issue is now available!

This issue was long-in-coming, which is a nice way of saying it’s much later than I’d planned. All I can say is, life happens and these labors of love sometimes take a back seat to the real world. Happily, things came together the week of Halloween, so the timing isn’t bad after all.

I’ll list copies for sale on our eBay store after I receive them, a process that usually takes about four weeks from publication day. For now, you can purchase the new issue on Amazon.com.

Issue 6 features a blend of dark fantasy and horror content in both the fiction and non-fiction departments. We have stories from returning authors C. Dennis Moore, Istaván Schaffer, Morgan Flynn, and Carl R. Moore. Mark Sieber gazes into the Dell Abyss in his Dead Trees column and graces our pages with his iconic Horror Drive-In column this time around, featuring great reviews of 1980s slimy monster goodness. We’ve included appreciations of Robert E. Howard and Michael Moorcock, Steven L. Shrewsbury shares his first-time experience visiting Robert E. Howard Days, and I’m back with the usual vintage horror paperback reviews in my Cryptic Tomes column, plus cover scans and valuations with an eye toward the collector. Realms of Night Issue 5 Appears through the Veil of Darkness!

The Spring 2025 issue is now available!

Actually, this issue has been live on Amazon since April 26, but I just received my publisher copies, which prompted me to pop in here and let the world know. This issue looks amazing thanks to some striking cover art by Allen Koszowski. For people who prefer to buy directly from us, I will add some copies to our eBay store in the next couple of weeks. I also have some great horror paperbacks to post on the store.

Speaking of great horror paperbacks, the new issue is yet another celebration of the great old horror paperbacks we all love to read and collect. This issue’s fiction includes stories by Lee Clark Zumpe, C. Dennis Moore, Istaván Schaffer, and Morgan Flynn. We also have some great non-fiction from Mark Sieber, who reviews three of his favorite splatterpunk novels; Eric S. Brown interviews the bestselling author David Robbins, author of the Endworld series who also wrote horror novels for Leisure Books in the 1980s; I reviewed Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats’ musical homage to gaillo Nell Ora Blu, as well as the highly collectible Avon horror novel Malsum; and the late Al Sarrantonio is featured in the Halls of Horror.

Realms of Night Issue 4 Creeps into the Autumn Twilight!

Our Fall/Winter issue is now available!

I wanted to publish a Halloween-themed issue but we wrapped up production a little later than I hoped. So, consider this our “Noctober” issue. It’s never too late in the Fall to read Halloween stories, is it? Of course not! So here we offer a collection of companion stories by Morgan Flynn, unified by their mise-en-scène of witches, cats, candles, and paranormal happenings on Halloween night. C. Dennis Moore contributes a tale of a Halloween attraction gone wrong in his story “The Nightmare Corridor.” Non-fiction includes the usual columns: Dead Trees by Mark Sieber sharing some of his experiences as a bookseller; Cryptic Tomes featuring reviews of vintage horror novels; The Bookhunter, by yours truly, sharing my thoughts on safely storing book collections; and The Halls of Horror with bios of horror greats and cover scans of collectible paperbacks. We’re pleased to have Eric S. Brown join the roster with an excellent interview with Martin Powell, who worked on the comics adaptation of Brian Lumley’s Necroscope series. And, of course, everything is adorned with more amazing art by Allen K.

Realms of Night Issue 3 Staggers from the Crypt!

It’s finally out! The Summer 2024 issue is now available.

It came in just under the wire, only a week away from the beginning of Fall. I originally planned to release this in August, but here we are. It’s done, it’s out, and it’s reaching for you with flesh-rotted hands from the mossy crypt! There’s no point in resisting. They’ll get you sooner or later. We don’t yet know if these are fast or slow zombies, but does it really matter if there’s no more room in hell?

This issue features an interview with pulp horror master William Schoell, an article on collecting Paperbacks from Hell by Will Errickson, vintage horror reviews in Mark Sieber’s Dead Trees column, non-fiction from C. Dennis Moore and Brian DuBois, plus new fiction by Carl R. Moore, and once again, all manner of insane compositions by yours truly, including new installments of The Bookhunter and The Halls of Horror. Finally, we return with a classic Allen K. cover and interior art that makes for a strikingly handsome package. There’s plenty to please the casual reader and collector!

Realms of Night Issue 2 Emerges from the Dark Mists of Time!

Yes, that’s my fancy way of saying the Spring 2024 issue is now available!

This issue is published in the English language on all Amazon sites worldwide. It is also available through expanded distribution channels, opening the door for direct orders from booksellers and libraries. I plan to reach out to some real-life brick and mortar locations to get some issues of the zine on bookshelves and newsstands in various regional locations. Ask your local bookstore and help us out if you’re so inclined. Or, drop us a line and tell us about a potential outlet. I’ll do the rest!

In keeping with the spirit of the 1980s small press horror zines I knew and loved, Realms of Night remains available in a black and white perfect-bound digest-sized print format only. We may publish electronic editions at some point, but I’m not inclined to do so just yet. This issue once again features the wonderful cover art of Allen Koszowski, plus some cool interior pieces by him as well.

Realms of Night Magazine Issue 1 Now Available!

That’s right. In an era when print media is going to the web, I shut down the Realms of Night website which ran from 2015 through 2023, and created a print magazine instead. Madness? Perhaps. Does it seem like more fun for fellow collectors and the kinds of folks who visited the site? Most definitely! We’re all book collectors after all.

Here are the issues we have published. So far — only one! Our magazine is currently only available in a perfect-bound, digest sized paperback format, because we’re old school like that. Well, not completely old school because you can order a copy through Amazon.com.
